Apart from beds, desks are the place where office workers spend most of their time. How the office desks or workstations setup can often reflect people’s priorities and personalities. It is crucial as the work environment can affect working productivity, performance, and creativity.

1. Adjust the Desk Height

The central part of the workspace is the desk, while most of the desk heights are fixed and can’t be adjusted to fit different positions for individuals. It has been proven that sitting at an improper height can put much pressure and strain on the back, neck, and spine. To achieve a good posture, you should sit up straight, keep back against the chair or a backrest, and relax your shoulders. Additionally, your feet should be flat on the floor, and your elbows bent to an L-shape. And the ideal work surface height depends on your height and can be set to the height of your forearms.

Sitting for long periods of time has negative impacts on both mental and physical health, and prolonged standing likewise. The key to the comfort and ergonomic working is to alternate between sitting and standing. 2. Adjust Your Monitor Height

To maintain a neutral posture, correctly positioning your monitor is critical. The tips of ergonomically arranging your monitor are, to have the top of the monitor screen at or slightly below your eye level and keep the monitor about an arm’s length away. Besides, you can tilt the display slightly back 10° to 20°, so that to read without having to strain your eyes or to bend forward. Usually, we use the monitor arms or monitor stands to adjust the height and distance of the screen. But if you don’t have one, we suggest you use a ream of paper or books to raise the monitor height. 


3. Chair

The chair is one of the essential parts of the ergonomic equipment, in which office workers sit on for most of their time. The whole purpose of a chair is to hold your body and, more importantly, to keep a neutral posture. However, our bodies are unique and come in various shapes, so adjustable feature is crucial for any office chair. When adjusting your office chairs, be sure that your feet are flat on the floor, your knees are at or just below hip level while bent about 90 degrees angles. In addition to adjusting the height, you can get a footrest once your seating position is too high or too low.


4. Others

Just as a proper desk and chair are relevant for an ergonomic office workstation, so is having adequate lighting. Besides, you can add some green plants to your workspace to lighten your moods and boost productivity. Last but not least, to keep clutter and clean desktop, place the necessary items in reach area, and store others into the cabinets or other storages.
